official languages in the country, the KwaZulu-Natal province is
predominantly Zulu. It makes sense, then, when you're visiting the
KwaZulu-Natal capital of Durban, to try to learn more about Zulu culture
when you're seeing it everywhere.
Many of the sightseeing tours in Durban will include mention of Zulu cultural elements, so that may be one way to start. To really dive into Zulu culture, however, you can sign up for a half-day "Zulu Heritage Trail" tour in Durban. This cultural walking tour focuses on Zulu history in the city and province, and it also includes the cultural history of the Indian population, too - another subculture in KwaZulu-Natal.
In a half-day tour, you'll learn about the Zulu experience during Apartheid, give your senses a workout at the vibrant Victoria Street Market (where you can buy all manner of Indian spices), and even see a Zulu dance performed at a township. It's a way to leave South Africa with a deeper understanding of the Zulu culture - and maybe some spices to cook with when you get home.
